Kashmir crisis live: Pakistan PM vows to ‘avenge every drop of blood’

Pakistan’s finance minister called on the country’s diplomatic partners to condemn Indian air strikes on its territory, warning that the world could not afford further escalation between the nuclear-armed powers.

“What happened last night is totally unwarranted,” Muhammad Aurangzeb told the Financial Times on a trip to meet investors in London. “It’s something which the whole world, including all our partners and long-standing partners, we certainly hope that they would condemn this.”

Pakistan said 26 people were killed in the overnight assault, which followed a deadly attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir last month.

Aurangzeb warned that emotions were “running high” inside Pakistan after the air strikes.

“You can appreciate the pressure that we are under at this point in time,” he said. “The reality is . . . two nuclear armed nations, simply no one can afford to go in a direction where escalation takes us into uncharted territory.”
